Mohammad Altaf boasts a distinguished cricket career, having played first-class cricket for ICA, IRCA, RRCA, Habib Bank Ltd, and PTV HQ. Internationally, he represented Pakistan U19 twice in 2003 and Pakistan U17 twice in 1999 and 2000, also participating in the Pakistan camp in 2000. He trained under renowned coaches such as Geoffrey Boycott, Geoff Lawson, Barry Richards, Trevor Chappell, and Sir Clive Lloyd from 1999 to 2004.

Altaf’s coaching career includes serving as Director of Sports at Electro Zone and BSB Islamabad from 2010 to 2011, Academy Coach at Desa Bangles in Johor Bahru, Malaysia from 2014 to 2016, and Coach at GM Cricket Academy in the UAE from 2016 to 2021. Since 2022, he has been coaching the Adults and Elites group at MSCA Cricket Academy.
