The Person Behind the Success of Many Cricketers in the UAE

Shahzad Altaf, born on October 6, 1957, in Peshawar, Pakistan, has significantly contributed to cricket both in Pakistan and the UAE. He started his cricketing journey with Lahore B, debuting in 1975, before moving to the UAE, where he became a pivotal figure in their national team. Altaf’s exceptional skills as a right-arm pace bowler earned him a spot in the UAE squad for the 1996 World Cup, where he played a crucial role.

After his playing career, Altaf’s passion for cricket led him to establish the first cricket academy in the UAE, the YTCA Cricket Academy. Through this initiative, he has nurtured numerous young talents, helping them realize their potential and achieve success in the sport. His commitment to developing cricket in the UAE has made him a revered figure in the cricketing community, leaving a lasting legacy.

Shahzad’s dedication is further evident in his personal life, with his son, Rameez Shahzad, following in his footsteps to play for the UAE, marking the first father-son duo to represent the nation.
